Fire crews have worked overnight to put out a fire at a derelict lodge in a Dorset village.

The fire at Cattistock Lodge on Newton Road, Cattistock, broke out at the two-storey stone building on Monday shortly before 22:45 GMT.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said five crews were sent along with an aerial ladder platform and two water carriers.

The fire service said the fire was out shortly after 02:00 and the cause was under investigation.

The building is also set to be inspected by the fire service and Dorset Council due to concerns over its stability.

The cause of the fire is to be investigated.

Maiden Newton Fire station posted onto Facebook saying:

” At approximately 10:45 PM last night, our crew was dispatched to a derelict property on Cattistock Road. Upon arrival, the building was found to be fully alight, prompting a request for additional resources. Support was provided by two additional fire engines, two water carriers, an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), and its accompanying pump from Dorchester, Bridport, and Yeovil Fire Stations.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and the scene was handed over to a relief crew from Beaminster Fire Station at 4:00 AM. The site will be re-inspected today during daylight hours by the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) and Dorset Council due to concerns about the building’s structural stability.

We advise everyone to avoid the area as the building remains in a dangerous state.”

Dorchester Fire Station added:

“Last night, at approximately 10:45pm, 2 pumps (1 from Dorchester and a pump from Maiden Newton) were mobilised to a derelict property on Cattistock Road.

On attendance, Maiden Newton quickly requested assistance and got to work with Dorchester as the building was well alight.

A further pump was requested alongside two water carriers, an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) and its nursery pump. These came from Dorchester, Bridport and Yeovil.

The fire was quickly brought under control, however due to its location and access it took some time to extinguish, so a relief crew were requested to monitor the property from 4am onwards.”
