Police were alerted to an incident at Dorset County Hospital, located off Williams Avenue, at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4. The report raised concerns for the welfare of a man spotted on the hospital roof.
Emergency personnel made efforts to communicate with the man, eventually bringing him to safety around 12:15 a.m., about six hours after the initial report. He was then provided with the necessary care.
Teams from Dorchester Fire Station, as well as specialists from Weymouth and Yeovil, were called in to support the operation. A police helicopter from the NPAS also assisted in the response.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service stated, “A crew from Dorchester, along with technical rescue teams from Weymouth and the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil, were dispatched to Williams Avenue at 6:40 p.m. to assist with a police incident. Our stop was recorded at 12:07 a.m.”
Dorset Police confirmed the details, stating, “We received a report at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, concerning the welfare of a man on the roof of Dorset County Hospital. Officers attended the scene, and with the help of the fire service, the man was safely brought down at around 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 5. He was subsequently given appropriate care.”
