Dorset, UK — Independent media outlet Dorset News is entering an exciting new chapter starting 1st May 2025, as it expands its role in the local community under a new name: Dorset News Media & Events C.I.C.
Dorset News began as a Facebook page during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, created to keep people informed and connected during a time of uncertainty. What started as a small grassroots effort quickly grew in popularity and trust, evolving into a reliable local news source. In 2023, the platform expanded further by taking on the local franchise of View From Weymouth & Portland, deepening its reach and impact within the community.
Now, in its latest evolution, Dorset News will not only continue providing independent news coverage, but will also step into a new role — supporting event planning and community fundraising efforts across the county. These new services will be run entirely on a volunteer basis, with the mission of uplifting and empowering Dorset’s communities.
“We’ve always been here to tell Dorset’s stories — now we want to help shape them too,” said Kallum Gethins, Director of Dorset News. “By supporting local events and helping raise funds for meaningful causes, we’re investing directly back into the communities we report on. This evolution reflects our commitment to being more than just a news outlet — we’re a community partner.”
Whether it’s helping organise a community fundraiser, covering a local celebration, or supporting an important cause, Dorset News Media & Events C.I.C is committed to being at the heart of it.
